Hui Okika O Kunia, Inc.,

The Kunia Orchid Society

meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month except April and January.
Find us in the Mililani Ike Elementary School cafeteria at 95-1330 Lehiwa Dr. in Mililani

Each month, we invite guest speakers or club members to share expertise in their areas.
According to our by-laws, the objectives and purpose of the club is: To engage in the promotion of orchid culture, extending the knowledge, production and appreciation of orchids; to acquire and disseminate information relating to orchid culture; and to encourage participation in orchid shows and displays. Meetings include a plant discussion table where members talk about plants that they brought. They also bring in sick plants to be evaluated by the Plant Doctor. Refreshments are served. Sometimes members have extra plants to trade or give away. There are also well-raised blooming plants available for sale. Work parties prepare and produce the club's show, which is one of the first orchid displays and plant sales to be held in the state every year. We also set up KOS displays in other orchid shows throughout the year. In January, we enjoy more fellowship with an Annual meeting at Hale Ikena. We have grown to be a big, cozy club of about 110 members.

The next KOS general meeting will be Tuesday, July 11, 2017
at 6:30 pm at Mililani Ike Elementary School.

July Featured Speaker: Alyn Nishioka will be speaking on “Photographing Orchids For the Beginner”
.
Alyn has been the official photographer of both the Honolulu Orchid Society
and the Hawaii branch of the American Orchid Society for many years.
He captures images of orchid plants as they receive awards at orchid judging
at meetings and shows for registration and recordation.
These images are a major content of the Honolulu Orchid Society's annual publication,
Na Okika o Hawaii, the Hawaii Orchid Journal.
The most amazing photograph of the year is selected to appear on the front cover.

Reminder: The monthly Plant Display will have two class areas (Novice and Master). There is maximum of three awards per class per meeting.

ALBUMS
The image galleries below are here to give you a feel of what our shows are like. Come and join us to celebrate springtime in Hawaii, where there is an abundance of orchid blossoms, refreshing with their fragrant air and beauty.
In early 2009, the Leilehua High School gym's floor sustained damage from a flood and could not be used for our show.
But with high spirits and determination, the show went on --with great success!! The school, the club and all attendees benefited, and we are grateful to all who made it happen.
In trying times, we appreciate the free pleasures in life in the company of those who share them.
Watch out for those complimentary pre-show tickets and help us to celebrate Springtime in Hawaii in March 2018!
Hele mai!

Spring 2008!!! The honohono were in full-bloom and fragrant!
Everyone had a wonderful time in the spacious Leilehua High School Gym, our new location for the first orchid show of the year.
