Orchid Fun and Education
in the Former Sugar Cane Fields
of Central Oahu

Hui Okika O Kunia, Inc.,

The Kunia Orchid Society,

meets on the 1st Tuesday of each every month (except in April and December) at 7:00 P.M. at Mililani District Park in Mililani, Hawaii. Each month, we have invited guest speakers or club members sharing their expertise in their areas. There is no general meeting in April and December. According to our by-laws, the objectives and purpose of the club is: To engage in the promotion of orchid culture, extending the knowledge, production and appreciation of orchids; to acquire and disseminate information relating to orchid culture; and to encourage participation in orchid shows and displays. Meetings include a plant discussion table where members talk about plants that they brought. They also bring in sick plants to be evaluated by the Plant Doctor. Refreshments are served. Sometimes members have extra plants to trade or give away. Work parties prepare and produce the club's show, which is the first orchid display and plant sale to be held in the state every year. We also set up club displays in other shows throughout the year. In December, we enjoy more fellowship with a Christmas party in a restaurant. We have grown to be a big, cozy club of about 130 members.

Membership dues for 2009: $15 per person. Contact the Kunia Orchid Society at P.O. Box 893956, Mililani, HI 96789-0956 or kuniaorchid@altavista.com For membership, comments and questions.

Hawaiian Orchid Culture Info!

The POS has completed work on the long-awaited revised and updated edition of the

Beginner's Handbook For
Orchid Growing In Hawaii

Kudos to past president Ted Green and to all who assisted in the years-long effort to compile and
produce this wealth of information.
8 1/2" x 11", 42 pages long, it contains many line drawings and photographs.
There is also commentary on numerous aspects of orchid growing that were not addressed earlier.
Copies are available in garden shops on Oahu.
